Jeffrey John Wolf vs Alexander Shevchenko: Madrid Masters Preview

Jeffrey John Wolf vs Alexander Shevchenko

Time: 2:30 PM IST

Head-to-head: 0-0

Jeffrey John Wolf’s recent experience playing on clay courts in Houston earlier this month is set to be a valuable asset for him during the European clay swing. It will be interesting to see how he can capitalize on this experience. His recent victory over Jordan Thompson in the first round of the Houston tournament was only his second ATP win on clay and his first since the 2022 ATP Houston.

Despite being the runner-up at the 2022 ATP Florence, Wolf has only won a total of 11 matches on clay throughout his career. In his upcoming match against Alexander Shevchenko in the first round of the Madrid Masters, he will make his debut on European clay.

Over the past eight months, Wolf has taken on new challenges and achieved positive results. He aims to continue this trend over the next few weeks. In late 2022, he earned his first main-draw victories in tour-level events outside of North America, stepping out of his comfort zone. He carried this momentum into the start of 2023 and reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open.

In contrast, Alexander Shevchenko has extensive experience playing on clay courts. In 2022 alone, he won over 40 matches on this surface. He has already earned a 9/3 win-loss record on clay in 2023, including two victories against Antoine Bellier and Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the Madrid Masters qualifiers. Shevchenko seems to be enjoying his time in Spain as he recently won the Madrid Challenger title and followed it up with his first main-draw victory in ATP events by defeating Lorenzo Giustino in Barcelona last week.

Judging by his recent form as well as his experience on clay, Alexander Shevchenko should be too strong for Jeffery John Wolf in Madrid.
Prediction: Back Alexander Shevchenko to win @ 1.64
